Over the last few months we’ve managed to have at least one overnight guest. We’re loving it, truly…but, each time we have a guest pop over we find that there are more things that we realize we should have put in their room.
I’ve gathered the bare minimum you should have in your guest room for any guest to feel absolutely comfortable during their stay.
- Comfortable bed – This makes the biggest difference for your guests. We used our old queen bed for years and our guests never slept very well. When we finally upgraded it was more than worth it. Now we get compliments all the time about how comfortable our guest bed is!
- Fresh clean sheets
- Extra blankets – both on and off of the bed but are easily accessible.
- Dresser – this doesn’t have to be very big…just a place for your guests to unpack.
- Closet space OR somewhere to hang clothing items – be sure to add hangers.
- Mirror – a small mirror is nice but if you can I would also recommend a full length mirror.
- Lamps – it’s always nice to give your guests the option to not use that over head light.
- Nightstands
- Trash bin – keep this in view for guests, and under the garbage bag keep extras…so if guests fill the trash and close it up they see they have new bags to replace it.
- Extra water bottles – mosts guests don’t want to wake anyone up when they’re searching for water in the middle of the night…so when they are thirsty they won’t actually go get any. Keep extra bottles in their room to avoid all of this.
- Fan – as with blankets you never know how your guests sleep at home. Most people we have over need a fan for circulating the air or even the noise. Be sure to have a good fan for either reason in your guest room.
- All the pillows – I even recommend different types of pillows as everyone has their own preference of pillow stuffing.
- A candle or room spray – if you’re using a candle be sure to light any new ones. Company doesn’t like to light brand new candles because they’re not sure if they’re allowed to.
- Wifi name and password – Just print off your wifi name and password and place somewhere in your guest room. This allows guests to log on right away with their cell phones and if in the evening they want to use another device they don’t have to bother you.
BONUS
TV – This is definitely not a must have item, but I recommend having a small additional tv for guests in their room. Just with pillows, fans, or blankets…most of the time you don’t really know what your guests do before bed and it’s always nice to give them the option to watch tv if they choose to in their own room. This is also very nice for those guests that like to retreat back to their room for a little solo time every now and then. Be sure that if your tv is difficult to work that you keep printed directions handy for them.
