Finding a morning cleaning routine is probably the best choice you can make for yourself.
We all lead extremely busy lives and it’s not always easy being a wife/mom/entrepreneur/employee/friend. We all seem to have endless to-do lists, and we want to excel in each area of our lives. While doing it all without losing our minds. This is precisely why I recommend routine. Without morning routines to keep things under control our world will start to feel as if it’s falling apart. Well maybe that is just me but…
When creating my morning cleaning routine I really thought about what HAD to be done. And about the tasks that would allow me to feel like my house was presentable in the event of unexpected guests. I also considered the tasks that if put off for too long would turn into a more time consuming project. My though process was, what tasks need repeated often but also will have the most impact without taking up too much to my time. This is what I came up with…
1. Laundry
Without fail this is the one area of EVERY home that just seems to pile up. I sometimes feel like my neighbors dropped their stuff off to also be washed. Just so much laundry. all. the. time. Every morning while I boil water for my tea I manage to start one load. This doesn’t sound like a lot and to a family of 5+, it might not be, but in our home doing at minimum of one load a day is a saving grace. Once it’s started you can go about the rest of your morning cleaning routine and by mid morning the load is ready to be switched.
2. Dishes
This looks different for everyone, and this task probably takes less than 5 minutes to complete, yet so many people push it off. We live in a home that doesn’t have a dishwasher. It’s surprising those homes still exist, but I promise you they do. Since I’m doing all of the dishes by hand I make sure all the dishes are done before bed. Allowing them to air dry while I sleep, and they are ready to be put away first thing in the morning.
By doing this during my morning cleaning routine I free up the sink to start the process all over again. Now if you’re the lucky ones who have a dishwasher this still applies to you. Run your dishwasher at night and then empty it first thing in the morning. That way you can fill it throughout the day and keep your kitchen sink free of all those dirty dishes.
3. Making the bed
How many times have you heard this? I mean seriously I used to never make my bed. I always just thought “what’s the point of making it if I’m just going to climb back in it tonight?”. Making my bed each and every morning seems to trigger something for me. By that I mean, I start to see how nice and neat things can look if I just take the time to do the little things. Before you know it there you are cleaning your bedside tables as well. This is just a great way to start your day. I also find that when my bed is made I don’t want to lie back down and sleep for a few more hours. Just a thought…
4. Daily chore
So this is something that changes with the days of the week. So come the weekends I may not have anything else to do after the first three things. But this is where I clean by room. By tackling one room each day of the week that eliminates the need for spending your entire weekend cleaning. By tackling smaller sections more often you keep up on everything and you spend FAR LESS time cleaning in the long run.
Cleaning doesn’t have to be something that you dread. You can find or even create a schedule that would meet your needs. I have found that this makes my life so much easier and allows me the ability to accomplish all the other things on my to-do list. Plus it’s always nice to feel like I’m beating the list and not that the list is beating me!
Between these morning tasks and my evening cleaning routine I’ve managed to keep my house in tip top shape.
What is something that you do each and every morning for your home and your family?
