Being a stay at home mom is busy, and makes it difficult to feel like I’ve had a successful homemaking day.
BUT, there are three things that you can do each day to start off on the right foot and ensure that you too have the motivation to power through, even if you didn’t sleep very well last night.
1. 5am
Some days it’s easier than others but I do my darnedest to get up at 5am every single morning. Sometimes the little one wakes up at 4 and getting her back down at 4:30 to only crawl back into bed for 30 minutes doesn’t seem like a good idea. But the idea is to keep things consistent and to remind my body that we have a routine to follow.
This also allows me a little time in the morning for myself, to spend with my husband before he’s off to work, possibly a spin on the bike, and it allows me to complete my morning cleaning.
The days may be long and the nights sleepless but it’s the only way to be sure I get all of my tasks completed.
The idea is that you continue to wake up at the same time everyday while the littles are sleeping. This way you have time to focus and work on that never ending to do list, or get your cleaning done.
Sometimes at this time of day it might be the only time that you can actually get anything done.
How to get started: Slowly set your clocks back earlier for a few days and then a few days later. This will help you get into the routine. I also HIGHLY recommend a sunrise clock (that’s the one we use). These things allow you to wake gradually and its a more natural process.
2. Get Ready
This might seem like common sense but it’s easily thrown to the wayside if you’ve got little people around.
Do you remember the days when you were able to casually roll out of bed and take an hour to get yourself put together in the morning?
Yeah, well those days are long gone. Now we have managed to fit more tasks into a 24 our period than we actually have time for, so the time we used to set aside for ourselves was the first to go.
I’m telling you, IMPLEMENT IT AGAIN!
Find what works for you. I’m a fairly fresh faced kind of lady, so I don’t bother with makeup on a daily basis. Even when I do wear it, it’s usually just mascara. So I take the 10 minutes out of my morning to brush my teeth, do my skincare routine, and get dressed.
Getting dressed is huge, and I won’t go into to much detail here but get out of your pj’s and put something new on. Trust me, it helps.
You don’t have to do anything fancy remember! Heck half the time I just wear leggings and a comfy shirt. Comfort is key in my book. Here are the leggings that I really enjoy.
3. Make your bed
How may times did your mom tell you to make your bed when you were growing up?
Do you actually do it now that you’re an adult?
If you’re not already, then you need to start.
Making your bed does two things each day.
First, it makes your room tidy. This allows you to see any other small thing that is out of place and immediately makes you want to take care of that. In turn you have one room of your house that is already tidy and taken care of. As a bonus, it’s the room that you designanted as your sleeping and relaxing space.
Both sleep and finding a little time to unwind are important and the last space you want to be messy is that space.
Second, if making your bed is the only thing you get done…you’ve at least accomplished something. This simple task may be the things that sparks the tidy bug and has you picking up and checking things off your todo list all day long. OR, it may be the only task you manage to get done that day, and that means the day wasn’t a waste.
There are SO many pros to making your bed it’s endless. Try it out for just a week, and I promise you things will be different.
Completing these three things each day will set you up for success and always seem to put me in the right mindset to accomplish all of the things that day.
