I believe your evening cleaning routine is just as, if not more, important than your morning routine.
Evening cleaning routines are those that make the morning tasks easy and quick to accomplish. By doing these things each and every night you ensure that you’re rolling into the next day as prepared as possible. It’s like they say “set yourself up for success”.
1. Dishes
I touched on this topic in my morning cleaning routine, and it’s because this is a two parter. You can’t do one without the other. So at the end of each day this is where you get the dishes done. I do all of my dishes by hand and before I head to bed I make sure that all of the dishes are washed and laid out to dry. Now if you’re the lucky soul that has a dishwasher this is far faster for you. Just load that bad boy up and hit start. You can finish in the morning. See easy enough!
2. Vacuum
This is huge for us. We not only are constantly in and out and have high traffic areas, but we also have a dog. And it still amazes me how much stuff ends up on the floor in just one day. I can’t imagine what it will be like when we have children. So I try to take out at the very least 10-15 minutes to vacuum the main areas in the house. This really helps out and keeps the dirt/debris/dust to a minimum. I choose to do this at night because when you wake up in the morning you have a fresh clean floor and it shouldn’t be getting dirty while you sleep.
3. Declutter
Whether we drag out a blanket, move some pillows or leave magazines and other random papers out, this is the time to pick it all up. I like to declutter quickly and efficiently by placing similar things, or things that go in the same room into piles. That way I can take everything at once. By folding the blankets and fluffing the couch pillows it again makes waking up in the morning so much more enjoyable. If you do have children I think that this is a great opportunity to get them to help you as well. Kids want to just be apart of everything and it never hurts to instill these habits at a young age. Not to mention the more hands the better right?
Realistically my evening cleaning routine usually doesn’t take me more than 30 minutes and that’s if it’s been a really crazy day. Yes there are times I don’t want to do it but I’m always so thankful when its done.
What is one thing you could start doing today that would make each day a bit easier?
